Large graphite drawings I created while working as a freelance web designer in Varaždin. This was a departure from a long time habit to render my artwork with ink, but those are still drawings made from imagination, not from observation. I will start drawing from observation after I move to Zagreb and start to practice drawing on teddy bears.
The second version of the self-portrait I created for the graduate research in 2001. The original was a part of art exhibition “From Cyberspace to Cybercafe.”
Stylistically, “Doppelgänger” is a bridge between the style of my underground comics and more traditional representational style I wanted to master at art school. Here you can see the emerging subject of the divided, unstable self that denies clear definition. This theme will follow me throughout the graduate program, and culminate in my graduate art exhibition and m.a. thesis in philosophy and art.
